The Four Quadrants of West Chester
West Chester Borough has been the heart of Chester County since 1799, laid out from the crossroads of High and Market Streets. From that center, four quadrants grew — each with its own story and character. Our brand celebrates those corners of town and the people who call them home.
Northwest (NW) – The Courthouse & History
The NW quadrant is anchored by the historic Chester County Courthouse, a symbol of civic life since the early days of the Borough. It represents community, tradition, and the role West Chester has played as the county seat for more than two centuries.
Northeast (NE) – Turk’s Head Tavern
The NE quadrant honors Turk’s Head Tavern, the gathering place that stood at the crossroads before West Chester was officially established. It represents the Borough’s origins as a meeting place where neighbors came together — the true foundation of community life in town.
Southwest (SW) – Education & Growth
The SW quadrant is the academic hub, home to West Chester University. With stacks of books and the mortarboard cap, it represents learning, growth, and the thousands of students and alumni who bring energy and new ideas into town every year.
Southeast (SE) – The Railroad & Industry
The SE quadrant carries the legacy of the West Chester Railroad and the role of industry in the Borough’s development. It’s a reminder of how the town was connected, built, and sustained over generations.
Together, these four quadrants form the complete picture of West Chester: a historic, cultural, educational, and industrious community with pride in every corner.
